I put X-ray units on the front lines in World War I
1914 — 1919
Situation
Wartime France: battlefield surgeons needed imaging near the front, and I combined X-ray technology, vehicles and generators into a working radiology service.
Action
During World War I, I developed mobile radiography units, the 'Little Curies', directed the Red Cross Radiology Service, and installed 20 mobile vehicles and 200 field units; over a million soldiers were treated with my X-ray units.
Outcome
I can turn laboratory science into field engineering at national scale, fast, when lives depend on it.
